WHAT IS LOW DOSE NALTREXONE (LDN)?

Naltrexone belongs to a class of drugs known as opioid antagonists. Naltrexone blocks opiate drugs from binding to the opioid receptors, which can result in increased endorphin and enkephalin release. Therefore, this results in reduced: 1. signaling and release of inflammatory substances, 2. nerve cell inflammation and 3. autoimmune mediators.

Which patients may benefit from LDN therapy?

Autoimmune Disease Lyme Disease Alzheimers Ulcerative Colitis Sjogrens Syndrome Weight Loss Fibromyalgia Traumatic Brain Injury Multiple Sclerosis Inflammation Crohns Disease Psoriasis

Autoimmune Disease

Accumulating evidence suggests that Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN; 3.0-4.5 mg orally, taken once daily at bedtime) can promote health supporting immune-modulation which may reduce various oncogenic and inflammatory autoimmune processes.

Lyme Disease

Over the years research has shown that LDN can be effective for patients with autoimmune disorders such as Crohn’s disease and Multiple Sclerosis. We are also working with physicians to incorporate LDN into protocols the utilize to treat Lyme Disease. It has been postulated that immune dysfunction could be a key to treating Chronic Lyme Disease.

Alzheimers

NBC News recently released an intriguing report that links Alzheimer’s and central nervous system inflammation. If accurate, it is the first truly “attackable” angle to help prevent and potentially mitigate the symptoms of Alzheimer’s. This may provide opportunities to advance and focus medication development towards neuroinflammation.

Ulcerative Colitis

Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis (UC) fall under a condition called Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and are characterized by chronic inflammation in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. An estimated 30% of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) don’t respond well to current therapy or may relapse over time. New treatment options are necessary and Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) may be able to help these patients.

Sjogren’s Syndrome

Sjogren’s syndrome is an autoimmune disease in which the body attacks the glands that makes tears and saliva by mistake. Sjogren’s syndrome characteristically has 2 major symptoms: dry eyes and dry mouth. According to Mayo Clinic, often the first symptoms noticed are dry eyes and dry mouth.

Weight Loss

A commercially available Weight Loss Product, Contrave, that consists of Naltrexone & Bupropion, has been used by many to lose weight. In a study, patients experienced clinically significant weight loss when combined with a diet and exercise program and also decreased body weight in patients with diabetes.

Fibromyalgia

In an Abstract, Low-dose naltrexone (LDN) has been demonstrated to reduce symptom severity in conditions such as fibromyalgia, Crohn’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and complex regional pain syndrome. We review the evidence that LDN may operate as a novel anti-inflammatory agent in the central nervous system, via action on microglial cells.

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

Methylcobalamin (RG3-Synapsin®) Spray (RG3 + Nicotinamide Riboside + Methyl B12) is an innovative, patent-pending powder blend of ginsenoside Rg3 and nicotinamide riboside along with ingredients to aid in solubilization and dispersion. It is designed to be used in formulations for the support of neurological health and cognitive support.

Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disease of the brain and spinal cord in which the body’s immune system attacks its own tissues (an autoimmune disease) that affects more than 400,000 Americans. With MS, the immune systems mistakes the protective covering on the nerve fibers (myelin sheath) as a foreign invader and therefore attacks it. An over-active immune response and inflammation leads to lesions in the brain and spinal cord.

Inflammation

Most of us think of inflammation when we get an injury and physically see swelling. Acute inflammation is your body’s immediate natural response; you often see redness and swelling and sometimes experience a loss of function. Chronic inflammation is low grade and systemic, constantly engaged, silently damaging tissues increasing your risk of disease.

Crohn’s Disease

Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis (UC) fall under a condition called Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and are characterized by chronic inflammation in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. An estimated 30% of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) don’t respond well to current therapy or may relapse over time. New treatment options are necessary and Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) may be able to help these patients.

Psoriasis

One of the most common question patients ask us is: Can LDN be compounded into a topical or transdermal dosage form? The answer is Yes. We have seen it prescribed for patients such as those who have psoriasis or eczema (topical) or joint pain (transdermal). Only one route of administration should be used at a time. Do not combine topical and oral therapies. Please contact our Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) Experts for more information.
